How vital is Beijing to business community?
TORONTO - Just how important is China to the Canadian business community?
When Chinese President Jiang Zemin visited Canada three years ago, more than 1,700 business leaders gathered at the C$300-a-plate (S$351) dinner, the largest turnout of business leaders to welcome a foreign head of state.
China was the first country to be visited by the so-called Team Canada, which goes on international tours to promote Canadian trade.
The group is made up of the Prime Minister, the International Trade Minister, provincial premiers and other senior government leaders.
China is the only country to be honoured with two visits by Team Canada.
